Pink October: CROUS Ziguinchor joins the fight against breast cancer

Throughout October, the institution supports the breast cancer awareness campaign. Its message to students fits in one sentence: screening done in time can change everything.

Every year, October turns pink. All over the world, institutions, associations and health facilities use this month to talk about a disease that affects many families: breast cancer. On 1 October 2026, CROUS Ziguinchor joined the mobilisation by publishing a poster and a message addressed to the university community.

The institution’s message

The text is short and addressed directly to students: “In this month dedicated to breast cancer awareness, CROUS Ziguinchor joins the mobilisation to recall the importance of prevention and early screening.” A sentence follows that sums up the campaign: “Because getting informed, talking about it and being screened in time can make all the difference.”

The poster repeats the message in a few lines: “Getting screened early gives you more chances.” and “Together for healthier lives.” CROUS/Z states there that it supports “prevention, information and awareness”, signing with its motto: student well-being, our reason for being.

Why this campaign also concerns a campus

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women worldwide, and an early diagnosis markedly improves the chances of recovery: that is the whole point of screening. A university community is also a community of families, staff, lecturers, mothers and sisters. Information that circulates on a campus does not stay there: it reaches homes.

CROUS/Z’s commitment follows this logic of information. The poster does not mention an organised screening event on campus; it invites people to get informed and to get screened in time.

Where to get information

Students who want information can contact the CROUS/Z medical and social division. Consultations, opening hours and contacts are listed on the Medical and social page. The poster also points, through a QR code, to the crousz.sn website.

Health remains a common thread of the new term: on 9 October, CROUS/Z launched another prevention campaign, on diphtheria.
